Reunion in honor of Mr Yusif ,hosted by Malik Dahlan

The December Manarat Jeddah Alumni reunion happened recently in Jeddah:

Crowne Plaza.The Crowne Plaza is group hotels owned by IHG.  The full form being Inter Continental Hotels & Resorts .This group was founded by Pan Am Airways  founder Juan Trippe.  Panam AM was respectable airline that ceased operations in 1991.

The Event hosted by Malik Dahlan . A man whose name I had heard when I talked to Mr BA Yusuf.I guess he is a Manratian since the manaratians invited by Mr Yusif.Dr Malik R Dahlan

According to Cambridge :

Malik R. Dahlan is Emeritus Professor of International Law and Public Policy at Queen Mary University of London and Senior Research Associate at Peterhouse, University of Cambridge. He is an internationalist and an accomplished lawyer and mediation expert. Dahlan is a New York-trained lawyer, UK Law teacher, GCC-qualified lawyer, internationally accredited (CEDR) mediator, and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He was a board director of the International Mediation Institute in the Hague. He began his international legal, regulatory and policy career as the founder and Principal of Institution Quraysh for Law & Policy (iQ) and a senior research fellow of the RAND Corporation”

“Dahlan practised trade law at White & Case LLP in New York and was the chief lawyer of MBR Legal.[3]

He served as special advisor to Lord Woolf, former Chief Justice of England and Wales, as well as Sir William Blair, in the establishment of the first independent English Common Law Judiciary in the Middle East from 2007-2010. Dahlan is the founding director of the Qatar Law Forum,[4] inaugurated in 2009.

He has also served on pioneering initiatives in ADR in several jurisdictions. He led several mediation and dispute resolution projects globally. He currently leads the Scotia Group (SG26), which brought together international mediators and experts to build out a ‘sherpa process’ for climate and energy transition diplomacy. His latest book by Edward Elgar, The Research Handbook on Energy, Law and Ethics was launched following the UNFCCC COP26 Process.[5]”

Policy career

“Dahlan was engaged at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, from 2004-2005 and was the founding Director of the Brookings Doha Center.[6]


He served on the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on the Future of the Middle East. He was a trustee of the Arab British Centre[7] and is an Advisory Board Member of the Beirut Institute.[8] He is also a member of the society of fellows of the Aspen Institute and of Aspen Justice Associates.[9]”



Dr Dahlan is from the Qureysh(according to site) and his exact name :

“Dahlan serves as Emeritus Professor at Queen Mary University of London and was the Chair of International Law and Public Policy at Queen Mary University of London and a Professorial Fellow at the University of Cambridge’s Lauterpacht Centre for International Law.


He is the Founder and President of the Scotia Group – an independent, non-partisan network of leaders within law, politics, academia, and business, who work together as “sherpas” to help make the UN Climate Change Conference meaningful, successful, and impact driven.


He has been a United Nations Regional Expert in Constitutional Affairs, a Special Advisor to Lord Woolf of Barnes, Former Chief Justice of England and Wales, a Special Advisor to the President of Mali, and was the Senior Mediation Fellow in residence at the Davis Center Harvard Negotiation Task Force.


Dahlan has authored and edited numerous books and articles including Research Handbook on Renewable Energy Law and Ethics (2022), ‘A Modern Marshall Plan for the Middle East’ (2020), ‘Envisioning Foundations for the Law of the Belt and Road Initiative: Rule of Law and Dispute Resolution Challenges’ (2020), The Hijaz: The First Islamic State (2018), The Application of the Objectives of Islamic Law on Public Policy (2017) and ‘A New Model for Regional Co-operation in the Middle East and the Wider Arab World’ (2014).”


Wow I just wanted find out who is Dr Dahlan is since Mr Yusif mentioned in his call that Dr. Malik R Dhalan is hosting the reunion.


Hopefully he is from Manarat Jeddah.
