Mayor of Jeddah is a Manarat Jeddah Alumni!

News

Jeddah, often described as the Bride of the Red Sea, is one of Saudi Arabia’s most important urban centers. Known for its historic links to international trade, its role as a gateway for pilgrims travelling to Makkah, and its growing importance as a business and tourism destination, the city continues to undergo significant development. Leading this municipal administration is a role that requires strategic vision, strong management, and a commitment to improving the lives of residents.

As of October 2026, Ehsan Bafaqeeh is the Mayor of Jeddah Governorate, following his appointment by royal decree on 11 July 2026. He succeeded Saleh Al-Turki, who served as mayor from 2018 until 2026.

Jeddah’s development also supports Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the national economy, attract investment, improve urban environments, and expand tourism. The city’s waterfront, historic Al-Balad district, commercial centres, and cultural attractions all contribute to its international appeal.

A city built on community and opportunity

For Jeddah’s residents, the success of municipal leadership is ultimately measured not only by major projects but also by everyday improvements: cleaner streets, reliable infrastructure, accessible public spaces, efficient services, and responsive administration.

Jeddah also has a strong expatriate and international business history. Generations of families, professionals, entrepreneurs, and students have contributed to its development. Institutions such as Manarat Jeddah have played a part in the educational experiences of many residents and former residents, creating lasting connections that extend across countries and generations.

As mayor, Bafaqeeh has the opportunity to strengthen the relationship between municipal administration, residents, businesses, and community organisations. Listening to local concerns and encouraging constructive participation can help ensure that the benefits of urban development reach a broad section of the population.

Looking ahead

The future of Jeddah depends on balancing ambitious development with practical service delivery, environmental resilience, cultural preservation, and sustainable economic growth. Ihsan Bafakih, brings experience in finance, investment, and public administration to this responsibility.

His challenge will be to translate those strengths into measurable improvements for the city and its people. For a city with Jeddah’s history, strategic importance, and international character, effective municipal leadership can help shape a future that respects its heritage while embracing new opportunity.
