Jeddah and Saudi Arabia of the 1980s was a special place for many people. Especially people who grew up there.

The many places of Jeddah was nostalgia to many. Some of them being are:

• Bab Makkah
• Corniche
• Nassif House 
• And many other places.

Saudi Arabia of late 1970s to 2000 hold memories for many expatriates.  The environment of specially Jeddah was a hub or melting point. Most of it was sand all-round the roads, though it has changed a lot.  The markets on the footpath, initially footpaths were not there. 

The sense of security and happiness maybe because of the very low crime rate.

The main attraction of Jeddah was being close to the sea, a moderate temperature (in comparison) and moderate nature.

Apart from the above, distance of Makkah and Madinah.

From Jeddah:

Makkah 75 Kilometers time by car-25 minutes.

Madinah 420 km, by car it took 4 hours.

Cars would be travelling 180 km/hour sometimes. Now it takes 2 and half hours by high speed train from Jeddah to Madinah.

Now today’s world, the society was simple, secure and happiness which cannot be expressed in words or found in US or Europe. Desis and expats mixed amongst themselves like kin and blood. Although not connected by blood but bond was stronger.

As kid who grew up in 1980s what we discovered in Jeddah:

2. TV programs: Electric Company ,Sesame Street,”Salamatuk”
3. Games::Game and Watch by Nintendo,Atari. Real Football.
4. Michael Jackson‘s Beat It and Madonna’s Spotlight.
5. Sarawat Shopping center
6. Corniche Beach
7. Al Balad
8. Drinks :Vimto,Suntop, Pepsi
9. Taif, Abha-to get some cold weather in the summer and have delicious pomegranates.

 or many these are not recreational at all, but the peace and happiness we had can be found now.

For many expats (Muslims) wanted to live there forever which was not an option.
